We are members of Unite organising to pressure the leadership to stand actively in solidarity with Palestine, and to mobilise the full weight of the union to oppose Israeli genocide.
Since October 7th, Israel has pursued a campaign of genocide in Gaza, the West
Bank and Jerusalem. In our tens of thousands, members of unite the UNION have
joined countless marches and protests, demanding an end to the slaughter, to the
occupation and to apartheid.
Yet this groundswell of solidarity was despite Unite’s leadership:
On October 16th the leadership were quick to condemn Hamas,
but could only bring themselves to “deplore the suffering and loss
of life” in Gaza. They did not call for an immediate &
unconditional ceasefire until November 3rd, and have never called
the Israeli offensive a genocide.
The leadership declined to speak at any of the national marches
and rallies, and refused to publicise and support them. They even
pressured regional officers not to speak at local rallies.
In a letter to officers and staff on 27th March, the leadership
attacked campaigns against arms export to Israel, saying that UK
‘defence’ jobs take precedence over Palestinian lives.
Conference has decided our union’s policies on Palestine
Oppose Israeli ethnic cleansing, the illegal seizure and
occupation of land, and the blockade of Gaza;
Build a campaign of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions;
Demand a two-way arms embargo, and support campaigns
targeting companies complicit with Israel’s illegal occupation
and settlements;
Oppose the “shrinking and fearful space for debate on
Palestine in the Labour Party”
Unite’s leadership must implement Unite’s policies
Join national Palestine Solidarity Campaign marches and speak
at their rallies. Publicise and encourage members to attend,
and arrange transport.
Publicly demand the government implements an arms
embargo. Facilitate a discussion between members and
campaigners to encourage a workers’ block on arms
manufacture and export.
Build the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign.
Speak out against Labour’s support for Israel’s offensive in
Gaza.
